Authentic Donau Touristic
  • The Alpe Adria cycle path, which is completely car-free and mostly flat, is a real hit. Most of the route follows the old railway line from Tarvisio to Venzone with great views.
  • Starting the tour in Mallnitz offers significant advantages: hardly any climbs; various contrasts as you cycle from the ‘rugged mountain village’ in the national park to the graceful Veneto; few traffic jams on the outward and return journeys.

Heat Campaign

In the Off Season from July 24th to August 9th, you can hire bikes free of charge or e-bikes at the rental bike price. We invite you to a dinner during this period.

With an extra night in Mallnitz and a cycle tour to Lake Stappitz (14 km, 80 metres altitude), you can experience the beauty of the Hohe Tauern National Park.

Route
Day 1, Arrival in Mallnitz

Parking at the hotel or the nearby public car park (3 minutes' walk) included. Your rental bike (if booked) is waiting for you at the hotel. Our tip: With an extra night in Mallnitz and a cycle excursion to Lake Stappitz (14 km, 80 metres altitude), you can experience the beauty of the Hohe Tauern National Park.

Day 2, Spittal/Seeboden (54 km)

The cycle path leads to Obervellach in the Drau Valley and to Lake Millstatt.

Day 3, Tarvisio (68 km/312 metres altitude)

You reach Villach (worth seeing) on a flat, car-free route along and close to the Drau. A gentle ascent along the Gail via Arnoldstein to Tarvisio.

Day 4, Carnia/Venzona (59/64 km)

Today you cycle car-free through the romantic Fella valley to Pontebba and your destination for the day.

Day 5, Udine (63/58 km)

Mostly car-free near the Tagliamento, you cycle through the fertile landscape of northern Italy to your destination for the day.

Day 6, Grado (63 km)

Past Palmanova and Aquileia (important Roman mosaics and more) to the day's destination.

Day 7, Departure

Every Friday and Saturday return journey by bus from the central Piazza Carpaccio/Grado (approximately 400 m from the hotel) to the hotel in Mallnitz (arrival at approximately 1 pm). Return transfer own bike + € 38,- (limited capacity). Remaining days on your own (discount € 55,-).
