Top sights

The city at the northernmost point of the Danube is home to a wealth of beautiful buildings, sights and special features, including the Golden Tower with a public courtyard. At 50 metres high, the 13th-century ‘Geschlechterturm’ towers over the city. The stone bridge was built around 1140 and, as a medieval landmark of the city, helped it to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The bridge tower is connected to this bridge, leading into the city and offering a wonderful view. St. Peter's Cathedral is one of the top sights. With its colourful windows from the 13th/14th century and Gothic ribbed vault from the 15th century, the cathedral is one of the most important Gothic achievements in Bavaria. In the 13th century, a town hall was built which, after numerous alterations, now consists of three parts: the town hall tower with the adjoining palace, from which you can enjoy a magnificent view during a guided tour, the Gothic Reichssaalbau and the Baroque town hall.

Culture & Events

The municipal theatre is located on Bismarckplatz. It seats 519 visitors and, with its elaborate revolving stage and lifting platforms, offers professional performers the perfect stage. Not far away is the former 19th-century cycling venue, which now serves as a stage for musicals, music and dance performances of all kinds. There are also other theatrest.

Events are part of everyday life here and are as diverse as the residents and visitors themselves.

Cuisine

Everyone will find something to their taste in this UNESCO World Heritage city, which has been considered the city with the highest density of restaurants in Germany for some time now. From traditional Bavarian cuisine in an original Bavarian restaurant to modern upscale restaurants and internationally oriented eateries, everything is possible. There are also many bars and pubs throughout the city.
