Route
Day 1, arrival in Rothenburg ob der Tauber:

Parking in an unguarded, public, free parking lot at the train station. Overnight stay in a 3☼☼☼ hotel.

Day 2, Ansbach (54 km): 

Bike rental (if booked). Initially slightly hilly to the source of the Altmühl and past Hohenzollern Castle Colmberg to Ansbach (guided tour of the residence). Overnight stay in a 4☼☼☼☼ hotel.

Day 3, Wettelsheim/Weißenburg (65 km):

Cycle past the Altmühlsee lake to Gunzenhausen and via Trommetsheim to Weißenburg or Wettelsheim. Overnight stay in a 3☼☼☼ hotel.

Day 4, Eichstätt (50 km): 

Past Karlsgraben, where Charlemagne attempted to build a canal between the Rhine and Danube rivers. Through the Altmühltal Nature Park via Solnhofen and the Twelve Apostles Overnight stay in a 4☼☼☼☼ hotel.

Day 5, Beilngries (44 km): 

Via Walting and Arnsberg (castle) to Kipfenberg (castle, townscape) and the day's destination. Overnight stay in a 3☼☼☼ hotel.

Day 6, Kelheim (48 km): 

Via Dietfurt, where the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal meets the Altmühl. Continue to Riedenburg (crystal museum; closed on Mondays) and Kelheim (Hall of Liberation, Danube Gorge). Overnight stay in a 3☼☼☼ hotel.

Day 7, Regensburg (38 km): 

Via Saal an der Donau and Bad Abbach to Regensburg (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Overnight stay in a 4☼☼☼☼ hotel.

Day 8, Return journey: 

Bus return to Rothenburg on Saturday (entire season) and additionally on Friday (June, September). On the remaining days, return journey by train (2-3 changes). For an additional charge of €38, return transfer of your own bike is possible from Thursday to Sunday, as part of the bus return journey or by night transfer (= drop-off by 5 p.m. the evening before and delivery to the start hotel by around noon the following day).
