Along the Fulda and Weser rivers, you’ll experience unspoilt river landscapes with numerous meanders and picturesque stretches of riverbank. The route takes you through historic towns and to the region’s major attractions. Highlights include the half-timbered town of Melsungen, Haydau Abbey and Kassel with its extensive Karlsaue park. Further along the route, you’ll find Hann. Münden, Hamelin and Höxter, home to Corvey Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bursfelde Abbey also enriches the route with its cultural and historical atmosphere.

Arrival in Bad Hersfeld. After receiving your travel documents, rental bikes will be provided if booked. Public parking spaces or hotel parking are available for your car at a cost of approximately € 10,- per day, payable locally. Afterwards, you will have time to explore the town at your leisure. A highlight is the largest Romanesque church ruin in the world, which also serves as the impressive venue for the renowned Bad Hersfeld Festival from June to August.

2nd Day, Melsungen (58 km)Your first cycling stage follows the Fulda River and passes through Rotenburg an der Fulda, known by the slogan “Naturally on the Fulda”. Continuing through scenic riverside landscapes, you reach the former Haydau Monastery with its remarkable historic complex. The route then leads to Melsungen, one of the most beautiful half timbered towns in northern Hesse. Its charming old town, lined with beautifully preserved historic buildings and narrow streets, provides an inviting setting for the evening.

3rd Day, Hann. Münden (61 km)Leaving Melsungen behind, you continue along the Fulda River via Guxhagen with its former Breitenau Monastery and onward to Fuldabrück. Peaceful river scenery and open landscapes accompany you throughout the day. In Kassel, the former residence city, impressive historical sites await before you continue to Hann. Münden. This picturesque half timbered town is famous for its beautifully preserved old centre and its unique location at the confluence of the Fulda and Werra rivers.

4th Day, Bad Karlshafen (47 km)Today you reach the famous point where the Fulda and Werra rivers join to form the Weser. The route continues along the river to the secluded Bursfelde Abbey, a significant monument of medieval monastic culture. Cycling through the attractive Weser landscape, you eventually arrive in Bad Karlshafen. Founded by Huguenots, the town is known for its Baroque character and fascinating history. Its charming streets are perfect for a relaxing evening stroll.
Active option: Along the 5 star Diemel Cycle Path, traffic free on the former Carlsbahn railway route, to Trendelburg Castle and back (+ 31 km round trip).

5th Day, Holzminden (56 km)Today’s route follows the Weser through a varied cultural landscape. Passing the idyllic town of Beverungen, you continue to Höxter, where a visit to the UNESCO listed Corvey Castle is highly recommended. After exploring this important cultural landmark, you continue alongside the river to Holzminden. The town is known as a centre of the German fragrance and flavour industry and also offers an attractive historic old town with numerous interesting buildings.

6th Day, Hameln (58km)Following the Weser, you cycle through the scenic Weser Uplands towards Hameln. The historic trading town is famous worldwide for the legend of the Pied Piper and delights visitors with its exceptionally well preserved old town. Magnificent townhouses, historic squares and the Minster characterise the cityscape. Numerous half timbered buildings reflect Hameln’s former economic importance and provide a fitting conclusion to this day’s cycling stage.
Active option: Excursion on a traffic free cycle path to Hämelschenburg Castle (+ 11 km) or to Bad Pyrmont (+ 31 km).

7th Day, DepartureAfter breakfast, your cycling holiday comes to an end. Convenient train and bus connections are available for the return journey to Bad Hersfeld. If you book the return transfer through us, your own bicycle can also be transported for an additional charge. This service is available from Wednesday to Monday and is organised as part of the scheduled return transfer. Alternatively, you may hand in your bicycle by 5:00 p.m. on the previous day. It will then be delivered to the arrival hotel in Bad Hersfeld by approximately 2:00 p.m.
